Ozomatli Announces Worldwide Quarantine Block Party
Free Live Zoom Event Saturday April 25th, After Party, & More!
LOS ANGELES, CA – Celebrated culture blenders Ozomatli are proud to announce they are hosting a Worldwide Quarantine Block Party to celebrate their 25th anniversary while raising money to benefit other artists this Saturday, April 25 on their website.
The livestream fundraising event, hosted in conjunction with the House of Blues Music Forward Foundation, will help generate funds for musicians and bands impacted by the recent COVID19 outbreak and the loss of their tours worldwide. While the event is free, the band encourages those who can afford to help to give to this important cause.
Hosted by EMMY award winning TV host, producer & social media influencer Pili Montilla and KCRW’s Raul Campos, the funk kicks off at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time and will include a premium VIP after party. In addition to the Grammy Award-winning band, the benefit will also feature founding band member Chali 2na, Cut Chemist, and other surprise guests to be announced!
The event itself promises to be unlike anything ever attempted before! In addition to live music, commentary, and giveaways, the band will be premiering their latest music video, Cuando Canto. Ozomatli also plans to write and record a brand-new song live during the broadcast event, all while staying quarantined safe at home!
“This is a really special experiment or us,” says a spokesperson for the band. “Now more than ever we need to feel connected to each other. This is our way of trying to create a new normal, a new way to share our music with the world and to help other artists at the same time. Come help us celebrate and keep the music alive!”

Over the course of Ozomatli’s 25 year career, the group has sold hundreds of thousands of albums, consistently sold out concerts around the world, and performed on high profile TV shows like The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel, Tonight Show w/Jay Leno, and Austin City Limits. Their music — a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga— has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around Los Angeles.
Ozomatli has won four Grammy Awards.
ABOUT CHALI 2NA:
With his unmistakable baritone voice and 6-and-a-half foot charm, Chali 2na has established himself as one of hip-hop's preeminent and most charismatic personalities. He's also garnered renowned praise as a visual artist across a wide spectrum of mediums. Most known for co-founding music groups, Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali released his debut solo album "Fish Outta Water" in 2009.
Since then, he has been touring the world with his 3-piece band known as the House Of Vibe. Breathing new life into his musical past, he recently completed "Against The Current”, a music and art project that combines a series of (5) genre bending EPs with a coffee table book featuring original artwork and photography from Chali himself.
Chali relocated from Chicago to LA in the early 80’s when he was entering his teens and was instantly engulfed by the worlds of hip hop and graffiti. As his music career began to flourish, his artistic talents also expanded past the walls of city streets and onto canvas and into galleries. Now, as Chali’s collection continues to grow he is finding unique ways to share his visual art with the world, and demand for it is snowballing.
His growing reputation as a Hip Hop Legend paints a bright future as he continues to build momentum with his artwork, voice-over work, and an increasing variety of performance collaborations; including his most recent partnership with UK Producer, Krafty Kuts and reconnecting with Ozomatli, 20 years after the release of their debut LP.
